Protocolos de bioseguridad en la práctica odontológica durante la pandemia de SARS-CoV-2. Una revisión en Latinoamérica.

The SARS-COV-2 virus is a type of coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease, declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11, 2020, with a mortality rate of 2.15% is a reminder for dentists to reinforce biosecurity standards. Objective: to analyze the biosafety protocols in dental practice during the SARS-COV-2 pandemic in Latin America. Methods: For the review, the keywords "Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2, biosafety, dental offices, transmission, Latin America" ​​were used in articles published between 2019 and 2021 in the databases WHO, OPAS, Latin American Center and del Caribe de Información en Ciencias de la Salud (Bireme), Acta Odontológica Venezolana and Scientific Electronic Library Online. Conclusions: the generation of aerosols cannot be eliminated in dental practice, but it is possible through biosafety standards to avoid cross contamination. Important complementary rules are observed in the control of the transmission of SARSCOV2 such as telephone consultations to carry out triages, the constant health monitoring of patients and staff to avoid entering the office possible positive cases of COVID-19. Disinfection and sterilization of the area, as well as asepsis and the use of PPE, to avoid generating contamination in the office, as well as good ventilation of the environment and healthy distance. Finally, these biosafety protocols are effective only if they are practiced together on a daily basis, making dental practice safer in a pandemic.
